摘要: Theherpesvirusesareubiquitous,doubled-strandedDNAvirusesthatcanreactivateunderconditionssuchasimmunosuppressivetherapy,acquiredimmunodeficiencysyndrome,malnutrition,andimmunosenescence.Thereareeighttypesofherpesviruses:Humanherpesvirussimplex(HSV)typeI(HSV-1)andHSVtypeII(HSV-2),varicella-zostervirus(VZV),epstein-Barrvirus(EBV),cytomegalovirus,humanherpesvirus(HHV)-6,HHV-7,andHHV-8orKaposissarcomaherpesvirus.Someofthesevirusescaninfecttheoralcavity,leadingtodifferenttypesoflesions.Specifically,labialherpes(HSV-1andlessfrequentlyHSV-2),zoster(VZV),infectiousmononucleosisandoralhairyleukoplakia(EBV),andKaposisSarcoma(HHV-8)arethemostcommonvirusesinfectingtheoralcavity.Someofthesevirusescanactinsynergywithotherherpesvirusesorasdistinctinfectiousagents.Otherherpesvirusesmayhaveindirecteffectsinperiodontaldisease.Thediagnosisisfrequentlybasedonsignsandsymptomsanddependsontheexperienceoftheexaminer.Cytopathologicand/orhistopathologicexaminationaswellasimmunologicalmethodssuchasELISAcouldhelptoelucidatecases.Inaddition,moleculartechniqueswhichcanbesensitiveandspecifichavebeenreportedintheliterature.Thesemethodsrequirelowamountsofsampleandcouldofferresultsfasterthanothertraditionalmethods.
